National Signing Day is here and LSU has wrapped up their 2023 recruiting class. Brian Kelly and his staff was able to bring in 25 commitments in this year’s class. The Tigers signed the majority of their class in the early signing day period back in December and isn’t expected to add any more players today. According to 247Sports, LSU currently sits at the No. 6 overall recruiting class for 2023. Also, five of the top 100 players in the 2023 class signed with the Tigers. Let’s meet the 2023 recruiting class that will be in Baton Rouge heading into next season:
Dashawn Womack, Edge:
Rated as one of the nation’s top players coming out of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland. Womack is rated as the No. 1 overall player in the state of Maryland. In 2022, Womack registered 48 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 15 sacks and recovered five fumbles in leading St. Frances Academy to an 8-1 season.
Javin Toviano, Safety:
Regarded as one of the nation’s top defensive backs in the Class of 2023. Toviano was rated as the top player in the Dallas Metro Area. The star safety led his team to a 10-2 season in 2022. During his final year, he racked up 38 tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles. On the offensive side, he rushed 41 times for 415 yards and eight touchdowns.
Jaxon Howard, Edge:
Howard is the No. 1 rated player in the state of Minnesota for the Class of 2023. He is also regarded as one of the nation’s top edge rushers in this year’s class. Howard would have stints at the linebacker and tight end position during his high school career. For the 2022 season, the star edge rusher would finish the year with 103 tackles during his senior season.
Whit Weeks, Linebacker:
Whit Weeks will join his brother West Weeks on the LSU roster heading into next season. Weeks is rated as one of the top players in the state of Georgia and his highly regarded as a playmaker at the linebacker position. He would see the field on offense and on defense. Weeks would see action at running back, wide receiver and kick returner. In the 2022 season, Weeks recorded 104 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, two sacks and three interceptions.
Ryan Yaites, Safety:
Yaites is a four-star prospect and regarded as one of the top players in the state of Texas for the Class of 2023. He would lead his team to a 14-1 record in 2022 as he compiled for 63 tackles, 11 pass breakups and two interceptions. In his junior season, Yaites earned all-district honors for his stellar performance that ultimately led his team to the state championship.
Jeremiah Hughes, Cornerback:
Hughes is ranked as one of the top five prep players in the state of Nevada for the Class of 2023. He would help his team, Bishop Gorman, win the state championship in 2022 as the school claimed its second consecutive championship. In the 2022 season, Hughes recorded 21 tackles, seven interceptions and three pass breakups.
Michael Daugherty, Safety:
Daugherty showed his versatility at the safety position throughout his career at Grayson High School. He would see the field in four games during the 2022 season before suffering a season-ending injury. Even with the injury, Daugherty posted 24 tackles, three pass breakups and a fumble recovery.
Kylin Jackson, Safety:
Jackson is one of the nation’s top safeties coming out of Zachary High School. During the 2022 season, Jackson recorded 72 tackles, five tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, two blocked kicks and an interception. The star safety would be named Most Outstanding Defensive Player in the Baton Rouge Advocate All-Metro Team for Class 5A and 4A in 2022.
Christian Brathwaite, Linebacker:
Brathwaite showed his versatility at the linebacker position throughout his high school career. In the 2022 season, Brathwaite racked up 104 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and nine sacks. The Cypress, Texas native would also be a difference maker on the special teams unit by blocking a kick.
Dylan Carpenter, Edge:
Carpenter has the ability to play multiple positions on the defensive side of the ball as he played linebacker, defensive end and edge rusher in high school. He would be selected to the 2022 5A/4A All-Metro Football Team for Baton Rouge and First Team All-District 5-5A in 2022.
Ashton Stamps, Cornerback:
Stamps was a highly-touted prospect coming out of Archbishop Rummel. During the 2022 season, Stamps registered 65 tackles, nine pass breakups, three turnovers and two blocked field goals. He would be selected to the 2022 New Orleans All-Metro large schools team and First Team 5A All-State as a senior in 2022.
