National Signing Day is here and LSU has wrapped up their 2023 recruiting class. Brian Kelly and his staff was able to bring in 25 commitments in this year’s class. The Tigers signed the majority of their class in the early signing day period back in December and isn’t expected to add any more players today. According to 247Sports, LSU currently sits at the No. 6 overall recruiting class for 2023. Also, five of the top 100 players in the 2023 class signed with the Tigers. Let’s meet the 2023 recruiting class that will be in Baton Rouge heading into next season:
Jalen Brown, Wide Receiver:
Rated as one of the nation’s top receiver prospects in the Class of 2023. Brown was named to the MaxPreps Junior All-American second-team offense and also was a Miami Herald All-Dade 5A-IND selection. In the 2022 season, Brown hauled 22 passes for 401 yards and three touchdowns.
Trey Holly, Running Back:
Holly is a product of Union Parish High School in Farmerville. During his high school career, he was able to shatter Nick Brossette’s rushing record by surpassing him with 10,523 yards. In his final season in 2022, Holly led his team to the state championship game. Holly ran for 2,694 yards and 38 touchdowns in 2022.
Mac Markway, Tight End:
Markway is regarded as one of the top prospects out of the state of Missouri in the Class of 2023. He would have to miss his final season of his high school career due to an injury, but throughout his time at De Smet Jesuit High School he would show his versatility at the tight end position.
Rickie Collins, Quarterback:
Collins is rated as one of the Top 10 players in the state of Louisiana for the Class of 2023. In the 2022 season, Collins finished the year with 1,512 yards and 17 touchdowns. He would also rush for 598 yards and six scores. In the 2020 season, he would earn All-Metro and LSWA Class 5A All-State honors for his performance on the field in a shortened season.
Kyle Parker, Wide Receiver:
Parker joins an elite group of receivers that will be coming into LSU’s 2023 recruiting class. He is regarded as one of the top players coming out of the state of Texas. In the 2022 season, Parker caught 72 passes for 1,091 yards and 13 touchdowns in his senior year. The star tight end would be named to District 7-5A Division II All-District in both the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
Jackson McGohan, Tight End:
McGohan is listed as one of the nation’s top tight end prospects and is considered in the ‘elite’ of the Class of 2023. The star tight end would receive accolades throughout his career as he was named to the All-Southwest team in 2021 and 2022. During the 2022 season, McGohan hauled in 52 catches for 941 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Zalance Heard, Offensive Tackle:
Heard is the No. 1 offensive lineman in the state of Louisiana and he will be joining forces with his former teammate, Will Campbell. The star offensive lineman played left tackle during his senior season in 2022 and led Neville to an 8-3 record.
Shelton Sampson Jr., Wide Receiver:
Sampson Jr. won’t have to move far away from home as he is a Baton Rouge native and spent his high school career at Catholic High School. He was regarded as the most accomplished wide receiver in school history. During the 2022 season, Sampson Jr. hauled in 79 passes for 1,152 yards and 18 touchdowns. He would be named to the 2022 Class 5A/4A All-Metro Football Team for Baton Rouge.
DJ Chester, Interior Offensive Line:
Chester played three different position during his high school career: center, guard and tackle. He was listed as the fifth best player in the state of Georgia for the Class of 2023. Chester was able to show his dominance and versatility for Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy.
Ka’Morreun Pimpton, Tight End:
Pimpton is regarded as one of the nation’s top tight end prospects in the Class of 2023. He would have a breakout year in 2022 as he hauled in 49 passes for 951 yards and 16 touchdowns. Pimpton finished his high school career with 85 receptions for 1,326 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Kaleb Jackson, Running Back:
Jackson is regarded as Louisiana’s top-rated running back in the Class of 2023. His 2022 season was cut short as he suffered a season-ending injury in the season opener. In the 2021 season, Jackson rushed for 2,031 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also would add 21 receptions for 394 yards and four touchdowns.
Tyree Adams, Offensive Tackle:
Adams was a highly-touted recruit coming out of St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was named to the First-Team All-District 9-5A during his senior season in 2022.
Khai Prean, Athlete:
Prean is one of the top players in the state of Louisiana for the Class of 2023. During the 2022 season, Prean hauled in 61 passes for 1,097 yards and 14 touchdowns during his senior campaign. He would be selected to the Baton Rouge Advocate All-Metro Team for Class 3A concluding the 2022 season.
Paul Mubenga, Offensive Tackle:
Mubenga was a part of a juggernaut at Buford High School and he is regarded as one of the top offensive line products from the state of Georgia. He has been able to show improvement from his freshman season and he was a key factor in helping his team win three state championships during his career.
